{"id":1830,"date":"2012-04-30T20:01:12","date_gmt":"2012-04-30T20:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/wp\/?p=1830"},"modified":"2012-09-02T19:48:09","modified_gmt":"2012-09-02T19:48:09","slug":"thai-style-ground-pork-with-chiles-and-basil-in-lettuce-cups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/?p=1830","title":{"rendered":"THAI STYLE GROUND PORK WITH CHILES AND BASIL IN LETTUCE CUPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pf-content\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0028.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1842\" title=\"IMG_0028\" src=\"http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0028.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0028.jpg 800w, http:\/\/mrsbutterfingers.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IMG_0028-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I crave something exotic with intense flavour my thoughts turn to Thai food.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This dish fulfills my craving.\u00a0 It is at once sweet and sour, hot and spicy.\u00a0 It is a simple recipe with just a few easily obtainable ingredients. \u00a0 The wonderful thing about this Thai Style Ground Pork is that it can be an appetizer or a main course.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ve served it with both the Asian Style flank steak and on another occasion,\u00a0 the Thai Red Curry with Chicken and Green Beans.\u00a0 It turns a simple supper into something special.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because it can be made ahead of time it is a great dish for entertaining.\u00a0 It freezes well, too.\u00a0\u00a0 You can use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of the pork.\u00a0 I like the pork for its robust flavour.\u00a0 For a main course serve this with basmati rice or noodles.\u00a0 Delicious!!<\/p>\n<p>Our son and his wife, who have spent several holidays in Thailand, gives it their highest award of five red Chili peppers.\u00a0\u00a0<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>THAI STYLE GROUND PORK WITH CHILES AND BASIL IN LETTUCE CUPS<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 (serves 2- 4 people as a main course, and serves\u00a0 4-6 people as an appetizer)<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons soy sauce<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons Asian fish sauce (or to taste)<\/p>\n<p>finely grated zest of a lime<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon brown sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoon canola oil<\/p>\n<p>1 generous tablespoon finely chopped or grated ginger root<\/p>\n<p>3 fat garlic cloves, finely chopped<\/p>\n<p>1 jalapeno finely chopped (if you desire less heat remove membrane and seeds)<\/p>\n<p>2 green onions white and light green parts finely chopped, greens reserved for garnish<\/p>\n<p>1 pound lean ground pork<\/p>\n<p>2 tbs. Hoisin sauce<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup chopped fresh Thai or regular basil<\/p>\n<p>Lime wedges, for serving<\/p>\n<p>Head lettuce, leaves separated<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a
